DUI and Probation Substance abuse Evals and Treatment
In the state of Georgia, individuals charged with a DUI or placed on probation for substance-related offenses are often required to complete a court-approved substance abuse evaluation conducted by a certified provider. This evaluation helps determine the presence and severity of any substance use issues and may lead to a recommendation for further treatment.
If treatment is recommended, individuals must participate in a program tailored to their specific needs—ranging from brief education and outpatient counseling to more intensive services, based on clinical findings and state guidelines.
All treatment must be completed through a provider approved by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).
In many cases, individuals must also complete Georgia’s Risk Reduction Program (DUI School), a 20-hour course focused on the impact of alcohol and drugs on driving behavior and decision-making.
These services are often a condition of probation and are closely monitored for compliance. The goal is not only to fulfill legal requirements, but also to provide meaningful support and intervention that can reduce the risk of future offenses and support long-term recovery.
Evaluations and treatment are client-focused, confidential, and aim to promote accountability, self-awareness, and healthier choices moving forward.
